🎻 All About TRIAL LESSONs

I’m delighted you’re considering violin lessons with Frederick Talent Education. 🎻
A trial lesson is a full 45-minute private session, billed at $65.

This gives you and your child the chance to experience a real lesson in my studio and helps us determine the best next steps together.

Most families go on to join the studio as members, which ensures a consistent schedule, tuition savings, and the full support of my program.

Length: 45-minute session designed for children, teens, or adults.

Format: We’ll talk briefly about your goals, try out some violin activities, and give you a sense of what regular lessons feel like.

Young Beginners (ages 4–7): No violin needed yet. Children and parents experience musical games, rhythms, and the feel of lessons. Parents learn about the commitment and partnership that support long-term success.

Older Beginners, Teens & Adults: Hands-on introduction to the violin. For adults and teens, I have an extra full-size instrument you may use during the trial.

Transfer Students: If you have prior instruction, please bring your violin (if available), method books, and be prepared to play a short piece so I can evaluate your level and recommend the best path forward.

Atmosphere: Warm, structured, and encouraging. Everyone walks away having learned something new!

For children and teens of any age, the parent or decision-maker must attend the trial lesson. This time is not only for the student to experience the violin, but also for parents to understand the studio philosophy, expectations, and the commitment required for long-term growth.

  • Ages 14 and under: A parent attends every lesson and helps guide home practice.
  • Ages 15 and up: Once enrolled, parents are encouraged (but not required) to attend ongoing lessons. However, for the trial lesson, a parent/decision-maker must always be present.

The trial lesson is the first step in building a partnership between teacher, parent, and student — a partnership that makes musical and personal growth possible.

If it feels like a good fit, the next step will be completing the Enrollment Form and receiving your Welcome Packet. This includes:
🎻 Confirmation of your weekly lesson day/time
🎻 Studio policies in clear, simple language
🎻 Guidance for securing a properly sized instrument (rentals arranged through Potter Violins)
🎻 Parent Orientation resources for families with young beginners

Frequently Asked Questions

A: No. For young children just starting out, the trial lesson is about exploring music and learning how lessons feel. If you choose to enroll, I’ll guide you to Potter Violins for a properly sized rental. For adults and teens, I have an extra full-size violin available to try during the trial.

A: The trial lesson is a one-time experience — there is no further obligation. It’s an opportunity for both you and me to decide if it feels like a good fit.

A: For brand new beginners, just bring yourself (and a parent). I’ll provide everything we need for this first session.

For students with previous instruction (whether through a school program or private lessons), please bring your violin, any current method books, and a short piece you are comfortable playing. This helps me evaluate your level and recommend the best path forward.
