Introductory Lesson

The First Step in Beginning Violin Study at Frederick Talent Education

All new students begin with a 60-minute Introductory Lesson.
This session is an assessment, not a trial or sample lesson.

The Introductory Lesson allows time to:

  • observe posture, setup, and coordination
  • assess readiness for study
  • introduce the teaching approach and expectations
  • determine whether this studio is the right fit for the student and family

Who This Lesson Is For

Young Beginners
Focus on readiness, attention, basic setup, and parent–teacher partnership.
Parents attend and observe.

Teen & Adult Beginners
Hands-on introduction to the violin with an emphasis on coordination, listening, and foundational technique.

Transfer Students
Assessment of current habits, materials, and readiness to rebuild fundamentals as needed.
Please bring your instrument and current music.

Instrument & Preparation

Do we need a violin for the Introductory Lesson?

  • Young beginners: No instrument is needed for the Introductory Lesson.
  • Teens and adults: A full-size violin is available to use during the lesson if needed.
  • Transfer students: Please bring your instrument and current music.

How should we prepare?

  • Brand new beginners: No preparation is required beyond attending with a parent or decision-maker.
  • Students with prior experience: Bring your violin, method books, and a short piece you are comfortable playing so I can assess your current level.

Parent Attendance

For students under 18, a parent or decision-maker attends the full lesson.
Quiet observation and note-taking are encouraged.

For families with young beginners, enrollment includes a required Parent Orientation to ensure shared understanding of expectations and roles.

After the Introductory Lesson

If the student and family are a good fit, you’ll be invited to enroll and secure a weekly lesson time.

If not, that will be communicated clearly and respectfully.
